The Opportunity

The position of Manager, Scientific Affairs is within our Toxicology business unit located in Lake Forest, Illinois.  This role is to provide scientific insight throughout Abbott Toxicology, engaging with internal and external entities. The candidate will be responsible for collating and summarizing data in support of Abbott Toxicology projects, presenting data at professional conferences and internal meetings, and assisting with technical marketing projects. Key internal stakeholders that the candidate would closely interact with include: Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Affairs, R&D, Marketing and Toxicology Senior Leadership. The role also involves interacting with existing and potential new customers.

What You’ll Work On

  • Ensure that new products and toxicology services meet the needs of a rapidly changing drug testing field
  • Assist providing scientific rationale for cut-offs and cross-reactants as necessary
  • Ensure Abbott Toxicology maintains leadership in the field of analytical toxicology services and technologies
  • Liaise with Regulatory Affairs group and other departments to assist in development, documentation and registrations (e.g. FDA 510k, IVDR) for novel technologies and products
  • Participate in Design Review and other meetings as required for new product development and launch
  • Assist in product marketing by providing technical information, presentations and review
  • Assist in resolving customer complaints when technical assistance is requested
  • Work across the business units to provide technical leadership in product development
  • Represent the company in a professional capacity including, but not limited to, at scientific conferences, on advisory boards, in relevant working groups and during government communications
  • Organize or assist in promoting relevant workshops, webinars and presentations
  • Remain active in relevant professional societies
  • Understands and is aware of the quality consequences which may occur from the improper performance of their specific job; has awareness of device defects that may occur in their area of responsibility, including product design, verification and validation, manufacturing and testing activities
  • Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal/external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company’s policies and practices; build productive internal/external working relationships
  • Carries out duties in compliance with established business policies
  • Other duties as assigned, according to the changing needs of the business

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in field of biochemistry, analytical chemistry, toxicology, or equivalent with at least 5 years’ experience OR Bachelor’s of Science degree with at least 5 years’ experience in drug treatment
  • Travel required 15-20%
  • Excellent writing and communication skills for preparation of publications, reports and presentations
  • Effective organizational capabilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player
  • Knowledge of computers and software programs including Word, Excel, Power Point, and document management programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in drug treatment, therapeutic drug monitoring, clinical or forensic toxicology

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 – $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
