We are seeking an experienced Media Relations & NL Communication Lead to join our newly built Communications team. This team will shape and steer the internal and external reputation / image of ABB E-mobility and its environment. We are the lead story tellers of the company, orchestrating the stories and themes to be told through media, influencers and other opinion leaders. As a modern communication discipline, we believe in a well-planned, editorial calendar and a real-time response approach. The Comms team is accountable for developing, planning and executing the external and internal/employee communications strategies on a global and regional level. This role reports to the Head of Communications at ABB E-mobility.

Your responsibilities

  • In this role you will be managing our global business and technology Media Relationships, shaping our corporate narrative and public perception, and enhancing brand reputation.
  • In this role and as a seasoned spokesperson, you will be the first port of call for global business and technology media on a day-to-day business.
  • Jointly with your Communication colleagues in the regions you will build and expand our audience and reach in the regions with a targeted, industry-focused communications mix across owned and earned media and increasing our investment in amplified communications. Being based out of Delft, Netherlands, you will also take care of the Dutch media market.
  • You will play a key role in developing and driving the corporate media narrative, identifying themes and stories to positively impact media coverage and public perception.
  • The ABB E-mobility business is a young and fast growing one and in this role you will have the opportunity to build and shape the Communication function in your area.
  • In addition, you will also be responsible to lead and coordinate the work of an external agency which is considered to be your extended team.
  • You will also act as a spokesperson for ABB E-mobility and you feel comfortable in engaging with Senior Executives of the company or outside of the company.
  • The role may include
  • Media Strategy Development: Develop comprehensive global media strategy (6-12 months plan) aligned with company objectives and key messaging and which will be leveraged by the Comms colleagues in the regions.
  • Media Outreach: Proactively pitch story ideas, news releases, and media opportunities to journalists, editors, and influencers across various media outlets.
  • Press Release Management: Write, edit, and distribute press releases and media materials to targeted media contacts.
  • Media Monitoring and Analysis: Monitor media coverage and industry trends to identify opportunities and assess the effectiveness of media campaigns.
  • Crisis Communications: Key contributor in developing and implementing crisis communication plans to effectively manage and mitigate potential reputational risks.
  • Spokesperson Training: key contributor in preparing company spokespeople for media interviews and public appearances, supporting preparation and execution of media training and messaging guidance as needed.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with members of the media, industry influencers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Content Creation: Collaborate with internal teams to develop compelling content, including articles, blog posts, and social media content, to support Media Relations efforts.
  • Event Support: Provide Media Relations support for company events, including press conferences, product launches, and industry conferences.
  • Reporting: Track and report on media coverage, campaign metrics, and key performance indicators to measure the success of Media Relations efforts.
  • Who are you
  • . The ideal candidate is passionate about clean energy and sustainability. You should have a track record in business and technology communication, ideally with experience in technology, software and/or the automotive industry. Expertise in consumer communication is an advantage.
  • You should feel comfortable to interact with media in a highly volatile environment. Ideally, you have an established network with global media and bloggers in leading media markets such as (US, UK, Germany, France, APAC) which you can leverage to the benefit of our business.
  • You should be able to think and write like a journalist, easily translating complex technology and strategy into true consumer benefits for appeal to broad audiences. Delivering under time pressure and tough deadlines is energizing rather than exhausting. Working with influencers and bloggers within the social media sphere is part of your repertoire.
  • You should also have good project management skills as at times you might be tasked to lead and run communications projects around major taking place in your market.

Your background

  • You should have a minimum of 3-8 years working experience and strong background in Media Relations and corporate communications experience, preferred in Corporate Comms, as, journalist or editor background or with experience on the agency side.You can easily identify opportunities for competitive differentiation and rapid response activation in conversations, media coverage trends and user generated content.
  • You do understand the social media universe and maintains a mix of participation (personally and professionally) among various channels demonstrating authenticity individually and for ABB E-mobility;
  • You have a strong “can do” mentality, able to build from scratch and to set up structure and processes;
  • You have a strong teamwork ethic;
  • You are able to effectively work within a team that is geographically dispersed.
  • You are eager to meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibility.
  • You have very good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task while meeting deadlines;
  • You are able to negotiate and acquire suitable external resources and services.
  • You have an ability to communicate result and acts as consultant to senior management and in a fast-paced environment.
  • English native speaker preferred with excellent written and verbal communications skills. Mastering a 2nd language is a plus.
  • Writing samples and references will also be required.
  • You feel comfortable in traveling across the regions at times.
