Role summary

Observability (o11y) Consultant Sales Engineers are experienced customer-facing architects with demonstrable expertise with o11y practices, solutions, and products. As one of Splunk’s specialized, technical customer-facing resources, you will be a key participant in the advancement of customers’ o11y capabilities with Splunk products. As a Solution Architect you will provide customers and account teams with technical and domain expertise for advanced, proven o11y use-cases and solutions.

You will research and communicate the value of leveraging Splunk’s o11y portfolio to address customer specific needs around observability use cases and framework(s). You will guide customers through their observability journey, recommending Splunk products that are applicable for their environment and maturity level. After leading successful sales opportunities, you will drive operationalization and customer business outcomes with the solutions.

This role requires a self-motivated continuous learner that has a deep desire to solve a wide variety of o11y problems. Customer interactions will cover a wide range of engagements. Some examples include aligning customer use-cases to Splunk capabilities, providing guidance to customers on solutions that meet their business objectives, presenting to senior customer staff, and partnering with Sales Engineers (SEs) to position and operationalize advanced use-cases and capabilities in accounts.

A successful O11y Solution Architect will not only maintain a technical understanding of Splunk’s O11y solutions, but also build cross-functional relationships with SEs, fostering a supportive mentoring environment that helps to build scale and impact Splunk’s continued growth.

What you'll get to do!

  • Develop and continuously maintain deep expertise of the observability and devops domains, including Splunk’s O11y portfolio and use-cases

  • Identify customer challenges where new or advanced Splunk O11y solutions address their business needs

  • Partner with Sales Engineers to drive these customer opportunities and outcomes

  • Provide expert-level engagement, demonstration, and technical proof of Splunk’s new or advanced o11y solutions

  • Consult and build the o11y technical roadmaps to advance account technical plans for customers in collaboration with the Sales Engineer

  • Plan and design advanced end-to-end and hybrid solution architectures

  • Drive deeper and broader penetration of Splunk’s O11y products within your accounts

  • Partner with O11y Strategists to locate opportunities for new products and use-cases in the incubation stage of their lifecycle

  • Identify, capture, and act on market trends, and capability needs to expand the scope of new opportunities

  • Operationalize Splunk’s advanced o11y solutions in the customer’s environment

  • Execute on plans to ensure long-term customer commitment to solutions

  • Proactively engage on the adoption and maturity deltas for advanced use-cases and solutions in your accounts

  • Build and maintain relationships with key customer personas

  • Ensure the customer has an understanding of Splunk’s relevant o11y offerings based on the customer’s current state

  • Communicate directly with Spunk customers to understand o11y architecture, infrastructure, and o11y objectives in order to map a customer’s o11y priorities and maturity to Splunk product capabilities

  • Provide hands-on leadership to domain / o11y product specific solve technical architecture/integration needs specific to Splunk’s o11y portfolio

  • Evangelize Splunk’s advanced o11y use-cases at theater/regional industry events and with customers and partners in your region

Requirements:

Must have: Technical and experiential competencies:

  • 5+ years of experience in a highly technical pre-sales and/or delivery capacity

  • 2+ years of experience operationalizing data from cloud services and/or applications to meet observability objectives and achieve business outcomes

  • Hands-on experience cloud solutions including containers or microservices on the AWS, GCP, and Azure platforms where you are certified or eager to become certified

  • Experience working in an engineering/software development environment with knowledge of current programming languages including Java, Python, PHP, .NET, Ruby, Node.js, Go, etc.

  • Familiarity with common industry monitoring frameworks like Four Golden Signals, LETS, DORA, MTTx, etc.

Must have: Behavioral competencies

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and excellent communication - both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively lead others in a highly-collaborative team environment

  • Excellent presentation skills and an expert in using data to articulate a story or issue in a Tell-Show-Tell format.

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to adapt to evolving priorities, with a dedication to championing the customer and your team.

  • Ability to be organized and analytical, and will be able to eliminate sales obstacles using creative and adaptive approaches.

  • IMPORTANT : We can teach you the technology, coach you on soft skills and educate you on processes. You should have a strong sense of self-motivation, an insatiable curiosity about what “is possible” with technology, the desire to work with an awesome team and a positive, fun-loving attitude

Nice to have: Technical and experiential competencies:

  • Familiarity with competing monitoring and observability technologies is a real advantage in this role, as well as complementary DevOps and ITOps technologies

  • Experience with log analytic use-cases (via Splunk, Elastic, etc.)

Other Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience

  • Available to travel to visit prospects and customers in the region

Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out below, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
