Wärtsilä is a world leader in marine technology and leading the industry's transformation towards a decarbonised and sustainable future. With the world’s widest portfolio and service network, we – Wärtsilians - deliver efficient, safe and sustainable integrated products and solutions to enhance the business of our customers. The opportunities presented through digitalisation and new technologies are offering a new era of shipping. Did you know that shipping is the world’s most efficient mode of transportation and that approximately 90% of world trade is carried by sea?
We want to change the course towards an interconnected and cleaner maritime future and are constantly on the lookout for future-oriented talent to join our team and to work towards enabling sustainable societies through innovation in technology and services - together. Are you ready to jump onboard?

Do you feel excited by working in a technical and worldwide project related organisation within the Maritime environment? Do you know how to keep a lot of plates spinning at the same time? Do you want to be challenged on your technical and your project management skills? Then this might be the position for you.

We are now looking for a

Project Coordinator

to join our team working for a better future.

The location for this position is our office in Drunen or Zwolle (The Netherlands).

What you will be doing

As a Project Coordinator you will be part of our Project Centre which takes care of all modification, upgrade, maintenance or repair projects to ship propulsion systems, and projects which aim to reduce the carbon footprint of the vessels, in line with Wärtsilä’s decarbonization strategy.

The projects can vary in value between €20,000 to €20 million and are carried out all over the world. We execute a wide diversity of projects concerning the engineering, assembly, supply and installation and commissioning of systems on board of the vessels of our customers.

In this position you will be the central point of contact for all projects assigned to you. Depending on size and complexity multiple projects are assigned to you and so you are working in multiple disciplinary project teams. Due to your effort, customers, suppliers, and internal colleagues (Engineers, Sales Support, Procurement, Workshops, etc.), know what is expected from them and what is the latest status of the project. You know how to manage your projects within budget and planning taking into consideration resources, quality, and safety.

Due to our worldwide projects, you will be in contact with people from different nationalities, languages and cultures. This means that you must have willingness to travel occasionally.

As Project Coordinator your work will focus on these responsibilities:

  • You are responsible for the realisation and follow up on your part of the project, together with the Project Manager.
  • Follow-up on agreements made with Project Management of the various production locations, Service workshops, engineering departments, Purchasing, Suppliers and Field Service.
  • You are responsible for the administration required in project management tools.
  • You take care of execution of the planning, from engineering, to receipt of the parts lists, to materials routing and transfer to workshops and factories to execution of installation and commissioning.
  • You act as a back-up for the procurement coordinator.

What do we expect from you?

  • You hold a bachelor’s degree, preferably combined with working experience within a project related technical environment.
  • Knowledge of project management, planning techniques and SAP processes is an advantage.
  • Since you will be working with many different colleagues and stakeholders, you know how to cooperate, work as a team and how to communicate with different nationalities.
  • Independent and enterprising attitude.
  • Good command of the Dutch and English languages both orally and in writing.
  • General technical and functional knowledge of (ship) diesel engines, propulsion and electro technology equipment in this field is an advantage.

You will shine in this role, when you have:

  • Bachelor in a technological discipline.
  • Preferably 2 to 3 years' experience in a comparable position.
  • You function well in a team and have a customer orientated attitude.
  • Independent and enterprising.
  • Stress-proof and flexible deployment.
  • Good communications and administrative skills.
  • Open attitude and accessible in communication.
  • Good command of the Dutch and English languages both orally and in writing.
  • General technical and functional knowledge of (ship) diesel engines, propulsion, electro-technology and/or peripheral equipment in this field is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of project management, planning techniques and SAP purchasing processes is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the maritime industry is an advantage.
