Reporting to the VP Manufacturing and Technical Operations, the Vice President, Partnerships & External Supply Integration of Large Molecule will lead the management of Innovative Medicine’s global External Supply base. In this role he/she will provide a combination of strategic vision and hands-on supply chain management skills in order to effectively lead the Innovative Medicine Partnership & External Supply, Large Molecule team.

Responsibilities include the development and management of the global external network, the management of critical strategic partnerships, reliability and continuous improvement as well as the management of EM new product launch activities. The Vice President will possess an in depth understanding of the Pharma industry and its supply channels so that effective global sourcing strategies can be formulated and executed in Large Molecule business.

This role is a member of the Manufacturing & Technical Operations Leadership Team and the Innovative Medicine Supply Chain Leadership Team.

Major Responsibilities

The Vice President will have Large MoleculeExternal Supply responsibility for the Pharma Sector and will be the primary point of contact into the Innovative Medicine Supply Chain organization. In this role he/she will represent external manufacturing activity and strategy as an adjunct member of the Innovative Medicine Supply Chain Leadership Team.

He/she will work closely together with the Procurement organization on key aspects of supply management to ensure alignment with Johnson & Johnson sourcing policies and processes and will provide leadership for all external operations business processes with accountability to manage those processes for quality, competitiveness and reliability.

The Vice President will engage in the strategy development process for Innovative Medicine Supply Chain and participate/drive specific strategic actions that arise from that work, regardless of whether they involve his/her organization. The candidate is also expected to partner with the J&J Supply Chain on strategic projects related to the enterprise.

The Vice President will also represent Innovative Medicine Supply Chain as a member of the Europe, Middle East and Africa (“EMEA”) Commercial Leadership Team and will act as the key point of contact for all Innovative Medicine Supply Chain Large Molecule strategies for that commercial region.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Develop the Pharma Partnerships & External SupplyLarge Molecule organization with particular emphasis on staff capability and diversity in order to ensure a high level of efficiency, professionalism and compliance with GMP regulations, applicable laws and Johnson & Johnson policies and procedures.

  • Develop and deploy a strategic plan for the External Supply function that will describe the tactics to be used to ensure reliability, productivity and performance improvement.

  • Develop, foster and manage relationships with the EM base at the executive level; conduct regular strategic business reviews, initiate joint corrective action plans as required.

  • Develop strong links to the internal Make Platform teams, Technical Operations team, Quality, Planning and R&D communities in order to shape a robust, flexible and efficient supply base.

  • Deploy a proactive scorecard of key performance indicators and ensure the achievement of those KPIs, including implementation of Innovative Medicine SC’s reliability processes.

  • Develop and deploy a partner development program that will provide the basis for on-going reliability and productivity improvement through the use of process excellence techniques. Sell the Win – Win position to the external partner’s senior management that will motivate active participation.

  • Effectively address risk in the External Supply chain through effective business continuity processes and plans.

  • Develop market knowledge in key technologies to enable competent and rapid selection of strategic EMs for new technologies.

  • Aligns Sector goals and objectives with the Enterprise goals and ensure that the linkage is embedded in the functional Staff’s Goals &Objectives.

  • Ensure that the Staff complies with all Pharma operational, quality, regulatory and ethical requirements; address deficiencies in a timely manner.

  • Interacts with multiple persons and functions within the Company, including other manufacturing sites within the Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain network, worldwide quality, logistics and planning, project management, contract manufacturing, project management, process sciences, product development, regulatory, environmental, health and safety, engineering, information management, human resources, finance, business development.

Contacts Outside the Company :

  • Key partners, FDA, EMEA, contract manufacturers, others as required.

Significant Safety or Working Considerations :

  • Frequent travel required for site visits, Leadership Team meetings, and other meetings as needed.

Qualifications

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in science, engineering, business or supply chain disciplines

  • Graduate degree/studies in science, business, engineering, finance or organizational management

  • MBA is a plus.

Experience and key competencies

  • A minimum of 20 years of relevant experience in the areas of Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Procurement is required. The qualified candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of managerial experience with a track record of expansion of responsibilities. Experience working for a Pharma company is preferred. A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a direct manufacturing environment with multi-site responsibility is required.

  • Experience in making financial assessments of projects and providing recommendations.

  • Proven experience in managing against a budget and making decisions that draw upon effective business and financial acumen

  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), ISO, FDA and/or other regulatory requirements

  • Skills demonstrated in influencing across the matrix and negotiating in situations without positional authority

  • A proven track record using Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing tools to drive productivity and performance improvement.

  • Excellent communications skills (presentation, negotiation, and influencing.)

  • Ability to attract superior talent and to develop diverse, high performing senior teams.

  • Creating a future vision and gaining support and alignment for that vision.

  • Possess the highest ethical standards and conducts all business dealings in accordance with the J&J Credo.
