The position of Western Europe controller will report directly to the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) Controller and you’ll be an integral member of the Global Controllership function. For the countries and entities in your scope, you will provide regional leadership and expertise in the accounting and finance activities associated with complex matters, including revenue recognition, revenue-related accruals, and technical accounting.

Building relationships at all levels of the organization is key and having the ability to effectively communicate complicated concepts to drive business strategies in an easy-to-understand manner will be critical to success in this role. This will allow you to understand the key risks & opportunities in your region that require your support to manage them. Finally, you will be responsible for elevating the engagement and capabilities of your team members so they can effectively work on their career ambitions.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Manage the controllership team including employee recruitment, salary merit, performance evaluation, employee goal setting & career development. Lead, coach and develop team member to deliver on departmental and organization goals.

  • Participate in special projects, including large and complex assignments such as business integrations, system implementations and divestitures.

  • Manage/partner with the Global Value Streams including Payroll, Invoice to Pay, Record to Report and External Reporting, ensuring accuracy, appropriate controls and adherence to SLA’s.

  • Share experiences and best practices with your regional peers and EMEA controller to continuously develop the knowledge of the overall Global Controllership organization.

  • Assess opportunity for further migration of work to Global Value Streams, Centers of Excellence and identify further opportunities for optimization and transformation to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of controllership processes.

  • Liaison and collaborate with business and functional department leaders such as Tax, VAT, Treasury, Supply Chain, IT, Customer Career, Human Resources & Legal to identify and assess risks & opportunities impacting your region.

  • Collaborate with various Operating Unit and Financial Planning &Analysis teams on accurate revenue recognition practices and other accounting matters.

  • Be responsible for the adherence to and communication of accounting and auditing policies and procedures and internal controls.

  • Be responsible for month end closing activities to be performed by your team.

  • Be responsible for technical support and accounting of Merger and Acquisition activities.

  • Oversee technical accounting research for complex business transactions and implementation of new accounting standards.

Must Haves

  • Master’s degree in finance, accounting, controlling or economics.

  • Minimum 10 to 15 years of working experience in audit, accounting or controlling.

  • Well-developed verbal and writing communication skills in English.

  • Ability to translate numbers and metrics into a compelling story towards your stakeholders.

  • Maintaining poise in difficult situations or conversations that require tact and reflection.

  • Strong technical accounting skills and in-depth knowledge on US GAAP.

  • Ability to think and assess situations from a more holistic point of view by looking at situations from various perspectives.

  • Ability to work independently by setting priorities and constantly revaluating them.

  • Working experience in an international environment.
